🦷 What is MIH?
MIH is a developmental enamel defect affecting one or more first permanent molars. Front teeth may also be involved. Its exact cause remains uncertain.
🔎 Which changes should families mention?
- Color: Clearly defined white, yellow or brown patches.
- Sensibilidad: Discomfort with temperature changes or brushing.
- Fragility: Weakened enamel may break down after eruption and is more vulnerable to cavities.
A change in tooth color alone does not confirm MIH. Diagnosis requires a dental assessment.
💡 How is care planned?
Treatment depends on severity. The dentist may recommend preventive care, sensitivity control or restorations. Severe cases may need specialist planning. AAPD recommends reviews every three to six months; discuss the appropriate schedule for your teen.
